About
Hi, I’m Amy and this is my dog Charlie.
I opened Teacher’s Pets at the start of 2023, but my journey with dogs began long before that. I have been surrounded by animals my whole life, from training my own dogs to caring for the pets of family and friends. Over time, that passion grew into a career dedicated to helping dogs live happier, more fulfilled lives.
I hold a Diploma in Veterinary Assistance and Animal Welfare, a Certificate in Dog Psychology, Behaviour and Training, and a current Pet First Aid certificate. I have also had the privilege of learning from some of the world’s best trainers including Michael Ellis, Cameron Ford, Ivan Balabanov and respected local experts.
More than qualifications, I bring love and commitment. I love dogs, I love the outdoors, and I truly love my job. Every dog that comes into my care is treated as if they were my own, and I make sure their humans feel just as supported with trust, reliability, and clear communication.
Before starting Teacher’s Pets I worked as a teacher for 10 years. While I enjoyed teaching, leaving my own dog at the door each day made me wonder how I could combine my skills in education with my passion for dogs. That is when the idea for Teacher’s Pets was born. I wanted to provide dogs with enrichment, gentle training, and adventure during the day so they could return home calmer, happier, and ready to enjoy time with their families.
My late dog Nike was my greatest teacher. He joined me on multi-day hikes, spent nearly every moment by my side, and even came with me into the classroom. His calming presence reminded me of the therapeutic power dogs can have in our lives, and it deepened my belief that when we give dogs the right care and structure, they give us back so much more.
At Teacher’s Pets I aim to share that gift by helping dogs and their people live their best lives together.
